5 Tough Questions That Will Make You Better in Your Business

The thing that makes network marketing so great is also the cause of most failures in the MLM industry. It is this: Network marketing is one of the easiest businesses to get started in. Anyone 18 years or older can do it, and it usually just requires a small upfront investment in the chosen company’s products.

We really like this about the industry because, as we always say, it’s the most democratic, “level-playing field” business model we know of.

But here’s the problem. The ease of getting started means that most people lack “skin in the game”. Because they haven’t really put their butts on the line, it’s super easy to give up too soon, not put in enough effort and simply walk away if you’re not getting the results you expected.

So if you’re already invested in a network marketing business and not achieving the level of success you desire, ask yourself the following questions before giving up on your business, and yourself!

5 Tough Questions for Success in Network Marketing1.  Are Your Expectations Realistic?

Those who promise get-rich-quick-schemes be damned!! There is no business, we repeat, NO BUSINESS, that will not require work, time and effort to build to success.

If you are getting into network marketing expecting to make millions in just weeks without having to do much work, then being in business is not for you.

Network marketers are professional business people. We understand the importance of working our business, taking care of customers and supporting our team. This requires a consistent, dedicated effort. But it will produce results.

The advantage of being in the MLM industry is that you can build a profitable business much more quickly than the traditional brick-and-mortar business model.

2.  Are You Re-investing in Your Business?

We’re amazed at how many MLM entrepreneurs expect to grow their business without spending a dime on it! Yes, you can do a lot to grow your network marketing business for free. But you should also be prepared to reinvest some of your earnings into things like: travel to training events; business cards, trade shows, social media promotion, etc.

Think of your network marketing business like a baby that you need to nurture and support as it grows to success. Spending money on your business is an investment in yourself!

3.  Would You Hire Yourself?

We love this question because it gets at the heart of what makes our business successful… or not.

Take an honest look at your daily business activities. If you were your supervisor, would you be satisfied with your effort and output? Would you still have a job? If not, it’s time to re-evaluate your daily production and identify areas that need more attention.

4.  Are you in integrity with the products or services you rep?

It’s really important to be a user of the products or services you are promoting. No matter what industry you’re in, you should be able to provide first hand accounts of how effective they are.

After all, if you’re not using them, why should the person you’re prospecting buy them?

5.  Are You Applying the 80/20 Rule to Your Business?

We like to apply the 80/20 rule to how we spend our time on our business: 80% of our time on revenue generating activities and 20% on other activities (like training and writing this blog post!).

Many new MLM’ers are caught in the trap of what we call “busy work”. These are activities that make you feel like you’re being productive, but don’t actually lead to more sales.

Success in network marketing depends on spending the majority of your time on revenue generating activities such as networking, prospecting, lead follow-up and customer support.
